DAY 1
08:30-13:00: Drive towards Burqin along the G217/G30 Expressway, with a 30-minute stop at Wuerhe Service Area or Heshuo Tuoluogai Town halfway.
13:40-18:00: Continue driving, arrive at Burqin County in the afternoon, and check in at the hotel.
19:30-21:00: Head to Burqin Riverbank Night Market (it doesn’t get dark until after 22:00 in summer). Taste local specialties such as grilled dogfish, kvass, and homemade yogurt. After dinner, take a walk along the Irtysh River and enjoy the night view of this small town.
Before 22:00: Return to the hotel to rest and reserve energy for entering Kanas the next day.
DAY 2
Burjin → Kanas Scenic Area
08:00-08:30: Have breakfast in Burqin County.
08:30-12:00: Drive towards Kanas along Provincial Highway S232. You will pass through Chonghu’er Town halfway (a 10-minute short stop is recommended to enjoy the rural scenery), and finally arrive at Jiayuguan Ticket Station of Kanas Scenic Area.
12:00-13:00: Have lunch near Jiayuguan Ticket Station.
13:00-14:30: Take the shuttle bus into Kanas Scenic Area, arrive at Kanas Old Village/New Village, and check in at the accommodation.
15:30-18:30: Core Experience 1 – Hiking/Driving Tour of Shenxian Bay + Yueya Bay + Wolong Bay:
First, take the shuttle bus to “Shenxian Bay” (15 minutes) to take photos of the morning mist on the lake (you can make up for it by getting up early the next day if needed; the afternoon is dominated by light and shadow effects).
Walk 1.5 kilometers to “Yueya Bay” (a must-visit highlight, be sure to take panoramic photos of the curved bay).
Then walk another 1 kilometer to “Wolong Bay”, and take a stroll along the lakeside plank road to experience the color changes of the lake water.
After 19:00: Return to the accommodation for dinner (wild vegetables and lake fish are recommended). If the weather is good, you can enjoy stargazing at the square in the Old Village.
DAY 3
06:30-08:00: Get up early, take the shuttle bus to Shenxian Bay to watch the morning mist (the sun rises around 6:00 in summer, and the morning mist lasts until about 7:30. Bring a thin coat and a camera). Then return to the Old Village for breakfast.
09:30-13:00: Core Experience 2 – Climb Guanyutai (the best spot to overlook the panoramic view of Kanas Lake):
Take the shuttle bus to “Guanyutai Parking Lot” (about 20 minutes), then walk up 1,068 steps (the round trip takes about 1.5 hours, with low difficulty and a wooden plank road along the way).
Stay at the top for 1 hour to take photos of the lake, snow-capped mountains, and forest panorama. In summer, you can see the “blue-green silk ribbon” texture of the lake surface.
13:30-14:30: Have lunch near Guanyutai or return to the Old Village for lunch.
15:30-18:30: Core Experience 3 – Kanas Lake Boat Tour/Lakeside Hiking (choose one or combine both):
Boat Tour: Take the shuttle bus to “Kanas Lake Wharf” and take a boat tour (about 1 hour, to enjoy the scenery in the center of the lake; service is suspended in winter).
Hiking: Walk along the lakeside plank road from the “Wharf” towards “Yaze Lake” (the round trip takes about 2 hours, with few people and quiet scenery, allowing close contact with the lake water).
After 19:30: Have dinner in the Old Village. You can optionally experience a home visit with the Kazak people (taste kumiss and listen to the dombra).
DAY 4
08:30-09:00: Have breakfast in Kanas Old Village, check out, pack your luggage, and take the shuttle bus back to “Jiayuguan Ticket Station”.
09:30-12:00: Depart from Jiayuguan, drive towards Hemu Village along Provincial Highway S232. Pass through Hemu Ticket Station halfway, and transfer to the scenic area shuttle bus to enter Hemu Village.
12:00-13:00: Arrive at Hemu Village, check in at the accommodation (wooden houses by the Hemu River, close to the viewing platform, are recommended), then have lunch.
14:30-18:00: Core Experience 4 – Hiking along Hemu River + Wandering around the Village:
Walk from the accommodation along the Hemu River towards “Hemu Bridge” (the hike takes about 1.5 hours, with birch forests by the river; the grass is lush and green in summer, and the scenery turns golden and brilliant in autumn). Wander around Hemu Old Village, admire the Tuvan wooden houses, fences, and cattle and sheep, and check in at “Hemu Post Office”.
19:00-20:30: Core Experience 5 – Take Photos of the Sunset at Hemu Viewing Platform:
Take the village shuttle bus or walk to “Hemu Panoramic Viewing Platform” to wait for the sunset (the sun sets around 21:30 in summer). Take panoramic photos of “the group of wooden houses + cooking smoke + snow-capped mountains”.
After 21:30: Return to the village for dinner. You can enjoy stargazing in Hemu at night (with little light pollution, the starry sky is extremely clear).
DAY 5
07:00-08:00: Get up early, climb Hemu Viewing Platform to take photos of the morning mist, then return to the village for breakfast and check out.
09:00-09:30: Take the shuttle bus to leave Hemu Village, return to “Hemu Ticket Station”, and transfer to an external vehicle to drive towards Wuerhe District.
09:30-13:00: Make a stop in Burqin County or Heishantou Town halfway, then continue driving west along the G217 Expressway.
